DeMicoli & Associates – Alert Offices, 2013

DeMicoli & Associates –

The Alert office is divided into 10 levels since each of the 5 floors are further split with a change in level between the front and the back. The staircase is located at the centre of the building in what originally stared off as a central courtyard. The split level between the floors allowed for shorter distances and thus meant a gain of further useable area.
The office area is generally open plan with furniture dividing the spaces for the group workers and glass partitions sectioning off offices and private meeting spaces.
The boardroom is situated over the main void over the entrance. It consists of two boardrooms which can be opened up into one large room with a folding partition. The design of the boardroom table is multifunctional and complimentary to the space design. The table is set with three pieces which can be fit together when the room is configured as one large room and split apart when the room is set up as two different sized rooms.
The break-out space is situated on the top floor, which enjoys a view and the best natural light the building has to offer; comprised of a kitchenette, amenities and a large shaded terrace.
The large skylight above allows light to filter down through the centre. Even though the staircase filters much of the light as it goes down the building it works very well to balance the light since the plot is relatively short and included with windows on both ends. A south facing yard with small openings and the large glazed north facing street facade which includes a large glass curtain wall.
The palette of materials is clean and simple and the corporate image has not only been included with the signage but also in the interior design details. The simple geometric volumes were a direct result of limited space available and it turned out to compliment the new company logo.
