EXPERIENCE, UNCONSCIOUS, CONSCIOUSNESS, FILM
Situated along the shore of the river IJ in Amsterdam, the EYE Film Institute represents a new landmark of the north extension of the city, occupying the former terrain of the Shell Company with its Overhoeks Tower. Now the big white volume, positioned just in front of the exit of the Central Station, relates itself with the architecture of the surroundings becoming, at the same time, a contrasting element of it. The Film Institute embodies a completely new architectural concept, full of ideas and high quality formal solutions, by generating several urban and interior situations, which, through their communicative orientations, contribute to a new social surplus of the multi-cultured city. However the new building s concept and the urban implementation are based on the interaction of these two creative disciplines, which have at their core reality and fiction, illusion and real presence, as a result of an unconscious design process that stimulates emotions and new sensorial dimensions. Therefore, visiting the Eye Film Institute can be a pretext to experience new images and feelings moved by sequences of human motions unfolded in the beautiful context with water, where crystalline surfaces reflect the light in multiple ways.
